Jason Van Der Slot: Yacht Racing



Jason Van Der Slot is an important name when it comes to sailboat racing. Originating in Tasmania, Jason Van Der Slot operates out of Melbourne, Australia. There, he is known for being one of the founding members of the Australian TP52 Association. This group helps to promote, organize, and host TP52 yacht races. In addition to this impressive fact, Jason Van Der Slot is also known as the creator of the TP52 Southern Cross Cup. This is a yacht race designed specifically for TP52 class yachts and has been gaining in approval and popularity for some time now.

Jason Van Der Slot is a co-owner of the TP52 racing yacht known as the Calm. Together, Jason Van Der Slot, Graeme Ainley, and John Williams have worked hard to make sure their boat is ready for any race. They originally purchased the boat in March of 2009 from the United Kingdom. It was built in Rhode Island originally, and was specially built to compete in TP52 circuit races in Europe and the United States. In 2009, the Calm ended up taking IRC honors in the ORCV’s Melbourne to Stanley Race. It also finished 10th place in its division in the Rolex Sydney Hobart race. It has also finished 3rd place in Division 1 of the ORCi. Most recently in 2011, Jason Van Der Slot is proud to say that the Calm finished in first place in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. 

Jason Van Der Slot has worked hard throughout his life to learn everything he has about sailing and racing. Since he was a young man, he has had a passion for sailing. He has learned about the mechanics of sailing, as well as the physics involved in sailing. He feels passionately about sailing and even participates in Junior Sailing, where he helps kids learn how to sail.
