A Man of the Sea: Jason Van Der Slot

Jason Van Der Slot is a man of the sea. He grew up on Tasmania, an island that is located off of the coast of Australia. Here, he was fortunate enough to be born into a family that had a passion for sailing. He grew up learning all kinds of information about sailing. He studied hard to learn about the boat that was owned by his family, but he also began learning about boats of all kinds. He even went so far as to learn about the physics that are involved with sailing, such as how waves actually work, and which direction is best to catch the wind.

Beyond sailing, Jason Van Der Slot gained a huge appreciation and love for the sea itself. He loved how open and infinite the sea was. He also enjoyed the sounds, sights, and smells that he would get from the ocean. He loved to go out into the ocean at night. To this day, one of his favorite memories is watching a distant storm in the middle of the night. Jason Van Der Slot remembers seeing the lightning flash so many miles away. The light in the darkness was one of the most beautiful sights he had ever seen.

Today, his passion for the ocean continues. One of his favorite pastimes is simply going out to the beach and relaxing with a book. Jason Van Der Slot still enjoys sailing as well, and has become well known for organizing a number of ocean related sports and organizations. He is one of the founders of the Australian TP52 Association, where likeminded yachtsmen celebrate their love of sailing and racing. However, Jason Van Der Slot is also known for being the creator of the TP52 Southern Cross Cup. This race was designed especially for those who own Transpac 52 class yachts.
