Jason Van Der Slot Founder of TP52 Southern Cross Cup

Jason Van Der Slot is a born sailor. He grew up on the island of Tasmania. It is commonly referred to as Tas for short, and Tassie by its inhabitants. Not only is it the 26th largest island in the world, but it is a hot spot for sailing for those who live in Tasmania and Australia. Jason Van Der Slot grew up in a family that made sure to take advantage of this fact. They all loved sailing and Jason Van Der Slot was no exception.

He spent his earliest years learning all that he could about sailing. He loved it so much that he learned even more that his family knew at the time. Eventually, he would become their teacher. He learned about the mechanics of his family’s boat. He learned the ins and outs of the boat, and he even learned how to repair it when it became damaged. Not only did Jason Van Der Slot learn everything he could about his boat, he learned everything he could about the science of sailing. He learned all about the physics involved with sailing. He learned that the best direction that the wind could come from was the side of the vessel. He also learned, through science, the best way to position your sail.

Jason Van Der Slot took his childhood passion with him into adulthood. Today, he is known as the founder of the TP52 Southern Cross Cup. The TP52, otherwise known as the Transpac 52 class yacht, is a racing yacht. Jason Van Der Slot designed the race to last much less time than traditional yacht races. This has led it to become quite popular among other racers. Normally, they would spend 12 hours in a single race. Jason Van Der Slot designed his race to take half the time.
